Level 6 SATs Papers

Up until 2015, Level 6 SATs Papers were used as an additional, optional paper that children could sit in Year 6.

Further SATs Practice papers to use for the KS2 Tests

The new format of SATs test is recognised as being more difficult than the previous version so great care should be taken when using past papers that are not in the new format.

There is a range of papers in both Maths and English which were designed to test the most able pupils.  These tests are still relevant and will still stretch children usefully as they prepare for their KS2 Year 6 SATs tests.

Level 6 SATs English Papers – For KS2 SATs – further preparation

These tests evolved over the years.  From 2013-2015 they followed a set format which links usefully to today’s format.

There are three sets of papers below. Each set has 1 reading comprehension paper, 1 extended writing task where the focus is on use of good spelling, punctuation and grammar, 1 SPAG test requiring shorter answers and 1 spelling test.  The extended writing task is useful in terms of development and writing will be teacher assessed as part of SATS tests but the other three papers are more representative of the current format.

Level 6 SATs Maths Papers- For KS2 SATs – further preparation

These tests have been pretty stable in format since 2011 so we have quite a bit of useful material to go on.

Because these tests were at the highest level primary school children were tested against they continue to be good practice for the new SATs format.  Children who do well in these tests will certainly have acquired the necessary skills to do well in the new format of SATs tests.

One word of caution, these tests are probably most suitable for children who are at the higher end of the performance range and caution should be exercised if children are not high performers.  The reason for this is that confidence is a very important aspect of a child’s maths exam performance and giving them a test which stretches them too much could dent that all important confidence level.

There are 5 sets of papers here. Each set has a two papers and a mark scheme.  In addition there are threshold guides/admin guides for each set but these are more relevant for teachers  so don’t need to be downloaded.
