How are SATs tests used?

SATs tests are used in a number of ways. KS1 SATs results might be used to help teachers decide which children might sit on top tables in year three and which children might need more support in one area or another.

KS2 Year Six SATs tests can be used by secondary schools as part of their decision making process to decide which children might go into top sets for Maths and English in their secondary schools.

SATs tests are also used by the education authorities to see how well schools are doing and to help them decide which ones are working well and which ones aren’t.
